Self hosted blogs on WordPress for Phone

We support self hosted blogs on WordPress for Phone app.

If a site is a WordPress blog (self-hosted or using a domain) it should work. Try the steps below after choosing “Add new blog”:
  1. Enter your username/email for the blog you have access.
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click Sign In button
  4. On successful sign in, select the blog from the list OR
  5. Enter the sites URL in this case http://example.com/ or example.com
  6. Click Authorize.
If Authorized, you should see the blog added in the app.
Sign-in with your WordPress account Connect your blog to the app
If the process fails at Sign in (Step 3), it means that the authentication on the blog is not connected with the authentication on WordPress. The app authenticates you using standard WordPress API which does not know about your blog.
You may need to have Jetpack 1.9 installed on your self-hosted blog and a WordPress.com account that links to your self-hosted blog.

FAQ for your reference.

FAQ

Who’s behind Jetpack?

Jetpack is hand crafted by the fine folks at Automattic, makers of WordPress.com.

Who should install Jetpack?
Anyone who’s hosting their own WordPress-powered site and wants to take advantage of the awesome features that Jetpack provides.

(Do you blog on WordPress.com? Then you don’t need Jetpack! All this great stuff is already bundled into your site.)

What do I need to install Jetpack?
Only two things:
1. A self-hosted WordPress site running version 3.8 or later
2. A WordPress.com account

Jetpack installs just like any other plugin. Some hosting providers even auto-install Jetpack with WordPress, saving you the trouble.

Once you install Jetpack, you’ll be prompted to connect it to WordPress.com—since Jetpack’s features harness the power of the WordPress.com cloud, you need a way to link up with those resources. If you don’t have a WordPress.com account already, you’ll can create one during the connection process. Setup is an easy, 30-second process.

For more detail on Jetpack’s system requirements, check out our Jetpack Support page.

Is Jetpack Free?
Jetpack is and always will be free. Installation is free and doesn’t require you to enter any payment information. (Some individual Jetpack features may require payment in the future, but they’ll be the minority, and we’ll let you know about them well in advance.)

I already use a plugin that is now part of Jetpack, like WordPress.com Stats. Should I keep using it?
As we upgrade each of our individual plugins to be a part of Jetpack, we’ll prompt you to switch over to the new, Jetpack-powered version. Don’t worry about upgrading, we’ll automatically take care of carefully switching over all of your settings and options so that it’s the smoothest experience possible. Once you’ve installed Jetpack, you can remove the older versions of those plugins.

Is this related to Mozilla’s Jetpack project?
Mozilla Jetpack is a wonderful but entirely unrelated open source project run by Mozilla Labs, which, if you know HTML/CSS/JavaScript, makes it easier than ever to improve Firefox. Don’t worry; we checked with them beforehand to make sure our use of the Jetpack name wouldn’t step on any toes.

Download the latest version of Jetpack.

  1. Hello! I’d like to commend your efforts in upgrading the app (and doing EVERYTHING I recommended on the review). It’s very much appreciated.
However I’ve had to hunt you down because I keep receiving an error code from MS when trying to update.
At first I was told to uninstall the app, and try reinstalling, which I did…but that turned out to be a mistake, seeing as I’m unable to install it now.

The code I keep receiving is: 80004005. It’s been over 4 days now with no positive result.

Please if there are issues with MS concerning the app, it’d be nice if you could resolve them.

Thank you again for your efforts.

    Uju.

    1. Hi,

This is an issue with the Store app not downloading correctly. Go to windowsphone.com and search for this app. There should a link to download/reinstall. Follow the steps and the app should get installed.
If not try a soft reset, steps will be provided on the internet.

      Thanks
      Dev team

  2. I have a.self hosted blog, http://www.vinlitevin.com. On trying to use the app for windows phone I am getting this error -“You must enter a WordPress.com blog or a Jetpack powered site.”

I have Jetpack enabled on my blog and I also have a WordPress.com account linked with it.

Once I downloaded the app, I logged I with my WordPress.com credentials, then I got the drop down from which I selected my self-hosted blog. After this it asked for credentials and I entered the selfhosted blogs credentials. At this point I got the error.

Could you let me know if I am doing something wrong or if its some bug?

    1. Hi Vin,

The process you are following seems correct.
Can you share the screenshot of the error. We would like to identify the source of the problem whether it is in the app or on WordPress/Jetpack side.

      Thanks,
      Apps team

      1. Hi Vin,

Thanks for the details. It looks like the error is on the WordPress/Jetpack end.

Have your tried logging in to wordpress.com and check if it has access to your blog?

Another option is to try again with another user id. We have checked our systems and we are able to connect to self hosted blogs.

One more question are vinlite.wordpress.com and vinlitevin.com the same blogs? Can you connect to vinlite.wordpress.com ?

        Hope this helps.

        Thanks,
        Apps team

  3. Hi,

After I uninstalled and reinstalled the Jetpack plugin, it started working for me. I guess there was something corrupted in the initial Jetpack install.

Anyway Thanks, now I can use the app. It is so much easier to use the app than to try to navigate through wordpress via default browser.

    Thanks,
    Vin
